The National Hurricane Center has officially classified Subtropical Storm Josephine, issuing its first discussion on the system Wednesday afternoon.

The storm evolved from a non-tropical area of low pressure designated Invest AL93, which forecasters had been tracking throughout the week. Recent scatterometer data confirmed that the circulation developed sufficient subtropical characteristics to earn a formal name and tropical cyclone designation.
