Amsterdam Schiphol's noise restrictions and slot caps have forced KLM into an about-face. The Dutch carrier is turning to the Airbus A350—a widebody it previously rejected—to replace its aging Boeing 777 fleet.

Climbing fuel costs sealed the transition. Because local regulations restrict flight frequencies at its home hub, KLM requires aircraft that generate stronger yields per departure while remaining quiet enough to meet strict environmental limits.
